ArtThrob and Krone invite applications for a three-week Group Artist Residency at Twee Jonge Gezellen, Tulbagh, in July 2027.
Three artists from different disciplines will be selected to live and work alongside one another for a focused period of research, experimentation and exchange on the farm.
The residency brings different practices into dialogue with one another and with the landscape, history and context of Twee Jonge Gezellen and the surrounding Tulbagh valley. It is intended to create space for artists to develop their individual practices while allowing conversation, proximity and exchange between disciplines to inform the process.
South Africa's oldest running online magazine, concerned with capturing the written narrative of contemporary South African art since 1997. We are collaborating to explore new ways in which interdisciplinary practise can come together and form new conversations.
Applications are welcomed from artists working across painting, sculpture, installation, photography, film, writing, sound, music and interdisciplinary practices.
One of the three participants is encouraged to have a strong interest in writing or publishing and to take an active role in developing a publication alongside the residency — participating in the group on equal footing and contributing to its thinking as it develops.
During the three weeks, visiting artists, curators, writers and speakers will join the residents for talks, conversations and critical exchange.
The residency may culminate in a group exhibition or another shared outcome developed through the process.
